Internships

Internships are an important part of your M.A. education. They can provide life-changing experiences, provide you with precious skills that you need in your future, help you build networks and open the door to job opportunities. While the Department of Politics strongly encourages students to get an internship, we do offer credit for it.

In the past few years, M.A. students have served as interns for a variety of organizations. Many of our students have served as interns with various departments and programs within the United Nations system or with various Missions and Representations accredited there. A substantial number of them have served with federal, state, and local agencies or in the offices of the elected officials. Currently several of our students work as interns on political campaigns. The majority, however, have been able to get internships with non-governmental organizations, think tanks, media and communication enterprises, and private sector. Some of them have turned their internships into full-time jobs.

The NYC is the ideal place to get an internship with the organization of your choice. A sample of organizations in which our students have served as interns during this past year would include the UN system, various US governmental agencies, the NYC state and local government agencies, but also Council on Foreign Relations, World Policy Institute, Scholars at Risk, Human Rights Watch, Middle East Policy Institute, PBS, ABC, NBC, Center for International Cooperation, Charlie Rose Show, Bill Moyers Show, Center on Global Terrorism, Morgan Stanley, McCain for President, and many more.
