In addition to teaching, research and doctoral-level work in Political Science, individuals with an M.A. in Politics are quite competitive and successful in the job market. Their substantive background and range of skills are desired by employers in most organizations. Because of the increasing demands of the job market, an M.A. degree in Politics may further strengthen one's attractiveness to potential employers.
We have designed our M.A. program to provide you with skills that would enhance your chances of finding careers in government service, political parties, interest groups and associations, education, business, journalism, and private or non-profit organizations. Our M.A. program is designed to broaden the student’s knowledge of the core areas of Political Science and to permit substantial specialization in their area of interest. As a rule, our M.A. students are expected to acquire strong familiarity with current theories and debates in political science on a wide spectrum of issues. They are also expected to develop sound research abilities, to effectively use qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis, to have skills in statistics or know a foreign language and to hone their oral and written communication skills.
Students graduating with an M.A. in Politics last year have pursued careers as varied as the global world in which we live. Many of our most recent alums work for the United Nations, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Defense, Center for International Cooperation, Council on Foreign Relations, PBS, Apple Corporation, Mortgage Backed Securities, Iran Times, Turkish Go Fabiani & Lehane Political Consulting, New York City Teaching Fellow Program, Center for the Implementation of Public Policies Promoting Equity and Growth, in addition to many other not-for-profit organizations, foreign governments, private organizations, educational institutions, and international institutions. Some of our recent MA graduates have successfully been admitted to Ph.D. programs like NYU, UCLA, Berkeley, UC Davis, Rutgers, University of South Carolina, McGill University, University of Florida and many other universities.
